In November, DWA presented its first cohort of Duke of Edinburgh Bronze Awards to successful students, following a year of hard work and dedication.

The students have completed a variety of activities as part of their Volunteering, Physical and Skills sections, ranging from helping at a local Scout Group, supporting in a charity shop and foodbank, learning the art of campanology, cycling, running and crocheting to name but a few.  It was fantastic to see their evidence build up, to talk with them about their achievements and to see their confidence develop over time.

Despite their enjoyment of all sections, the highlight for all of them was the expedition and the opportunity to be outdoors with their peers.   For some it was their first adventure with hiking and camping outdoors while for others it built upon previous experience gained through organisations such as the Scouts.  The teams spent a great weekend out and about in the area around Clumber Park and Sherwood Forest. Although on the Saturday, the 2 groups faced a tough challenge with the weather and both groups having to put their navigational skills to good use when they veered slightly off their planned route, their positivity and resilience really shone through (unlike the sun!).  The teamwork they displayed and the encouragement they gave one another was great to see and a real credit to them.

They are all looking forward to the challenge of the Silver Expedition now!
