  • A Night at the Musicals great success

    This December we performed our Christmas musical spectacular at De Warenne Academy, ‘A Night at the Musicals’. Students have been working hard twice a week since September, learning a number of songs and scenes from popular musicals such as; Wicked, Hairspray, Matilda, Les Miserables, Legally Blonde and many more.

    The show also has an underlying plot of an amateur drama club putting on its first big musical as we follow the trials and tribulations of Henry, Margo and Sandra the co-directors of the show. What

  • Shepherding duties begin

    11th October 2017

    Shepherding is one of the unique enrichment opportunities on offer here at De Warenne Academy. Students have the opportunity to learn how to look after the flock of sheep that live in a paddock outside of the academy. Many students take part in this activity and they regularly comment on how this is the only time they have seen or interacted with livestock.

    When the sheep have lambs the students ensure they are looked after, some lambs have even been bottle fed by our students.

  • Doncaster CAST theatre visits the academy

    Chris from CAST Youth Theatre visited the Drama Club on Monday night to run a taster session of what students could expect if they they signed up to one of the groups. The De Warenne Academy drama club is made up of over 30 students and staff who put together two high quality shows per year. Activities included those that rely on using the imagination of kids such as how to become a vending machine and an inaminate object.   • De Warenne celebrates Year 11 results

    Students, staff and parents are celebrating another year of improved results at De Warenne Academy.

    In English and Mathematics the percentage of pupils achieving a grade 4 pass or above in both subjects was 54%, with English Literature results at grade 4 and above 16% higher than those achieving a grade C last year.

    There has been a great improvement in performance in subjects across the broader academic curriculum this year, with 100% of students achieving A*-C in GCSE Computing, Fine Art and Business Studie

  • De Warenne celebrates Year 13 results

    Students and staff at De Warenne Academy are celebrating a great set of results.

    38% of the A Level results were graded at A*-B and 23.8% of grades were A and A*.

    100% of candidates passed all of their A Levels, again beating the national average of 97.9%.

  • We’re making communication easier & faster

    We’ve recently introduced a new service - School Gateway. This means that we can share information such as lesson timetables, achievements and assessment results with parents more quickly via email, text, online and smartphone app.

    You will also be able to make payments via credit and debit card, view lunch balances and give online consent for activities such as school trips.

    On Tuesday 11th and Wednesday 12th July De Warenne Academy rocked to the sound of the School of Rock. Students have spent 7 months rehearsing for the show which is provided by Andrew Lloyd Webbers Really useful group free of charge for schools.     This July we are performing our biggest musical spectacular at De Warenne Academy, ‘The School of Rock’. This is a rare opportunity for a school to perform a show whilst it is still playing in London and on Broadway, and is thanks to an innovative package form Andrew Lloyd Webber.   • Conisbrough Music Festival visits the academy

    Today (Friday 19th May) James Taplin visited the academy to perform for students and promote the forthcoming Conisbrough Music Festival which will take place on 1st July 2017. After a performance for students in the auditorium to encourage students to take part in the academy talent show he held a jamming session with the Year 10 performing arts class, even handing his guitar over to Mia Ogley-Hough to play.

  • De Warenne students wow the audiences

    A number of De Warenne Academy students took part in a local production of Les Miserables. The event which took place at Doncaster Little Theatre featured Emily Straw Y11 as Cosette, Emily Wileman Y8 who played various parts and our very own Brogan Jones Y11 on the bass guitar. These students are all part of the Carr-nival Academy of Theatre Skills and put the show together in a limited time frame. Well done to our students it was a great show that received a standing ovation every night. 

  • SYPTE Travel Pass update

    10th May 2017

    DISCOUNTED public transport fares are to be offered to more young people in South Yorkshire, after South Yorkshire Passenger Transport Executive’s (SYPTE’s) proposals to extend the current concessionary travel scheme for 16-18 year olds were approved by the Sheffield City Region Combined Authority Transport Committee today, 8 May.

    The enhancements mean that from 1 July all 16 to 18 year olds living in South Yorkshire, including those in apprenticeships and employment, will be able to apply for a 16-18 Travel

  • Class of 2016 afternoon tea

    "You are cordially invited to join us to catch up, chat and collect your exam certificates at De Warenne Academy". This was the invitation sent to all Year 11 and Year 13 students who left us in 2016. The event was held in the Sixth Form room and an afternoon tea was be served. It was a good opportunity for Alumni to catch-up with their friends and teachers, and discuss the exciting things they are up to at the moment.  

  • School of Rock London trip is a great success

    30 Students and Staff travelled to London on Thursday 23rd March to see School of Rock at the New London Theatre. Students are due to perform the show in July and therefore got a good chance to see the show in action.

    The day started at the academy at 8am when the bus left for London, we arrived at the New London Theatre where students browsed and purchased most of the souvenir stand.   • Are you worrying about exams?

    GCSEs are just around the corner and revision is a priority for thousands of students. Exam anxiety is reportedly at record levels, so BBC Bitesize has stepped in.

    Last year, Bitesize asked students from across the UK what type of resources would help them deal with exam stress. The answer they gave us was short, shareable videos featuring young people who've recently taken their exams. 

    The Mind Set is a group of twelve young people, from a range of social backgrounds, with mixed GCSE and Nationals results.

  • Celebrating Success - Maths,English & Science

    To give a boost to students in the run up to the summer exams, De Warenne Academy has held an Y11 Celebrating Success in Maths, English and Science assembly this morning. A number of students have been recognised for improving grades or marks from the beginning of the year. Mrs Rooney also delivered a presentation detailing the countdown the exams and highlighted how important every aspect of the process is.
