Strengthening Communication

At De Warenne Academy we are always looking for ways to further improve our practice. We value the feedback we receive from parents/carers and pupils. Here you will find some of the many ways that this feedback has enabled us to improve what we do.

Would like more opportunities to study music.Re-introduced music into the curriculum in addition to after school enrichment sessions.
Would like to know how Year 7 students are settling in and have the opportunity to give feedback.Implemented a Year 7 settling in evening during the first half term.
Want to know more about what happens in Year 11 and how we can support our childrenImplemented Year 11 Information Evenings to provide parents and carers with comprehensive information about the Year 11 journey, including revision resources and study tips.
Wanted a greater presence of staff after schoolIncreased the number of staff on duty outside of school both before and after school.
Would like more information about what our children study in their subjects.Overhaul of the curriculum area of the website to include information about each subject area. Learning journeys shows what pupils studying during the year in each subject.
It would be nice to have more of an influence on how the school runs.Parent Partnership Group is now established and a regular cycle of meetings has been scheduled. Please see the Parent Partnership section of our website for more information.
We would like more information about SEND.Improved information provided on the support that we provide for SEND students, as well as advice and guidance for parents. The SEND section of our website has also been updated
More praise for students who achieve wellPupils receive above & beyond in their planners in addition to summer reward events. Pupils who have produced high quality work are rewarded by the senior leadership team during Proud Thursdays. @DeltaDeWarenne
Want to be more aware of how we can support our child with homeworkProduced parent guides and tutorial videos which are available on our website. These include how to access remote provision and prepare for assessments
Students
We want more say in what happens in schoolSet up an academy council who meet regularly to discuss what happens in our academy.
We want more prizes and rewardsPrizes given for attendance, homework.  “Above and Beyond” stickers introduced. Proud Thursday introduced.
We want to learn about more jobsEnsured that all pupils have at least two careers information sessions per year. We also have a dedicated careers advisor with whom pupils can book appointments.
I’d like to get more involved in careers daysWe have a member of staff dedicated to organising careers days and events.
We want more clubsEnrichment programme has been expanded.
