Teaching and Learning

All De Warenne staff participate in training and development opportunities in order to improve their professional expertise. This enables teachers to keep up with the latest developments in teaching and learning so that they can apply these to their own classroom practice.

Every Tuesday there is an after-school training session which may be for the whole staff together or for particular groups of teachers.

One of the main areas for development in the academy is the promotion of excellent literacy skills for all students. This year there have been several whole-staff training sessions on this topic and all teachers are expected to incorporate elements of literacy into their lessons. This could mean a focus on key words for their subject; teaching students how to write extended answers well in examinations; developing reading skills or promoting good speaking and listening. Recently, the academy’s work on literacy has been recognised by the National Literacy Trust and that organisation’s logo can now be used on the De Warenne stationery and website.
